About Us

Uniview and SCISS first came into existence in the early days of 2003. I had just returned to Sweden after a master’s thesis project with the American Museum of Natural History. We had built an interactive visualization engine for their Hayden Planetarium dome. Or we had built the embryo of an engine, at least. Good enough to raise some serious interest from some other planetariums and from hardware vendors in the industry.

I formed a team with Per Hemmingsson and Professor Anders Ynnerman at Linkoping University. We wanted to build on what we had developed, to turn it into a product that could capture the marvels of our universe. And while we worked, we discovered that planetariums welcomed us with open arms.

A few years down the road, we had established distribution and integration partnerships with major systems integrators like Carl Zeiss, Global Immersion and Elumenati. We established partnerships with more academic institutions, and we got more paying customers. Our alliances widened, our community grew, and like in any close relationship, we were shaped by our environment into what we are today.

We want you to be a part of our community, a member of the Uniview family. Before joining up however, maybe you want to get to know us a little bit better. If so, please feel free to take the chance. I want our Stockholm office to be an open and welcoming place and we’re happy to host you as our visitor, whether you’re shopping for a new planetarium system, looking to learn a little bit more about software technology or just make some new friends.

Beyond this invitation, I don’t want to try to package the SCISS culture in a corporate profile. Come here and get to know us. If to say anything, we’re engineers all the way to our fingertips. We value science, innovation and quality. But we also have a humanist trait to our group and we value honesty, empathy and respect, both for our community of users, for our colleagues and competitors in the industry and for each other within the company.

Finally, the story of SCISS and Uniview is more than anything else the story of improvement. For one thing is sure, change is the default state of the universe and the only way to keep up is to continue to improve. Every day we ask ourselves, what can we do better. We want to include you in that discussion, and together we can shape the successful future of the digital theaters of the world.
