The Uniview installation at Ahhaa is the first joint installation between Ohira Tech, Orihalcon Technologies and SCISS outside Japan. To make the science centers vision of the new planetarium come true our three companies did need combine our knowledge. And the planetarium is today truly unique, featuring not one but two Megastar projector in fully sync with the 360 by 270 degrees Uniview projection. Ahhaa gives regular tours of the universe in combination with star gazing, if you are interesting in seeing a unique planetarium, we are glad to recommend a visit to Tartu.

One of the first installations of Uniview Theater outside the Hayden Planetarium at AMNH was the installation in Gates Planetarium at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the 55 foot dome with a Fidelity Bright system from Global Immersion is however only one of many installations of Uniview at the Museum. Uniview Producer is used for production of shows like “Cosmic Journey: A Solar System Adventure", Uniview Viewer is installed on the exhibit floor used for hands on teaching to follow up the planetarium show. In the planetarium is Uniview Theater used for astronomy education as well as Digital Earth presentations given by geologists and live music events using Uniview visuals as back drop. Cosmonova, part of the Swedish Museum of Natural History, uses the Uniview platform as an integral part of the new digital planetarium, installed by Global Immersion using the Fidelity Bright fulldome projection solution.

ARS Electronica claims that their Deep Space exhibit offers a one-of-a kind experience. We at SCISS agree, the 16 by 9 meter images displayed on the wall AND floor in stereo 3D is a very inspiring environment to travel through the universe. The center is using Uniview Theater with the stereo 3D add on to inspire and educate their visitors.

Planetarium Hamburg uses Uniview Theater and Geoscope for Earth-based visualization to give live presentations in the dome, the unique functionality have made it possible to widen their already exciting combination of astronomy, music and art. The planetarium is also using Uniview Producer extensively in the production studio. In combination with Uniview Producer they are using the stereo 3D add on to create stereo 3D movies.

The Minnesota Planetarium Society has been traveling with their dome running Uniview Theater to schools and have reached some 100,000 Minnesota learners over the last four years. They are using Uniview Theater on a single projector with a fish-eye lens from Elumenati, “The innovative thing is that we deliver a form of guided inquiry through our 100% interactive Uniview programming. Our projection is a truncated field of view (180x135 degrees) which provides better resolution and more immersion for our visitors who are lying on their backs" says Joel Halvorson, Program Director. Besides being a huge asset for their outreach programming “The interactive nature in what we’re doing has had major impact in how we’re designing our new facility. At the California Academy of Sciences Uniview Theater is installed the Morrisson Planetarium on a Fidelity Bright system from Global Immersion as well as in a Geodome from Elumenati. The combination of the installations allows the academy to widen their offering to their visitors, the Geodome is possible used for more experimental presentations than the main dome, for example shorter shows about climate sciences. Uniview Producer is an important part of the production studio, a major part of the opening show “Frigale Planet” was rendered from Uniview Producer.

At Mayo high school Uniview Theater is installed with a single projector with a fish-eye lens from Elumenati next to the starball in the 30 foot dome. “With Uniview our renovation revolution allows to see darkness in a whole new light. Now the sky is not just the limit it's the beginning. Uniview has strengthened our mission to have students connect ‘awe’ with ‘aha’!” says Larry Mascotti, planetarium director. Mayo planetarium participates in a Uniview network founded in Minnesota with planetariums from museums, high schools and universities to get new ideas and data. The network is using the feature in Uniview to work together remotely, Octopus, “This enables us to do professional staff development remotely and we have the possibility to interact on a level we didn’t have before” says Larry. The first prototype of Uniview Theater was installed in the Hayden Planetarium 2002. Since then Uniview is used for live presentation of AMNH:s Digital Universe database as well as earth and climate science. The planetarium is also using Uniview Producer to produce material for fulldome productions as well as short videos presented online. Their “The Known Universe” has now been viewed more than eight million times at YouTube.

At Navet Science Center is Uniview Theater since 2007 installed with a flat screen projection, filling one of the walls in a small room. This gives Navet the opportunity to take their visitors on a journey in a spaceship, with the projection being a window into space. One of the main reasons for Navet to go with the flat screen projection was the low hardware, less than €10 000 was spent on hardware, this allowed Navet quickly to be up an running with a solution that appeals to their visitors. In the Intech Science Center and the Astrium Planetarium Uniview Theater is installed on a Fidelity Bright system from Global Immersion, in their usage of Uniview do they combine pre-rendered sequences with live segments. For Schools they offer shows to the UK schools KS2 to post-16 and the live presentations aim of communicating ideas of scale of distance in space, subjects of course more suitable for a immersive planetarium than books.

In Schwaz Planetarium, Austria, has Uniview Theater been installed since 2006 on a SPACEGATE QUINTO system from Carl Zeiss. After the upgrade to the fulldome system the planetarium see an impressive increase in visitor numbers, by 40% the first year and another 20% and has today reached 50 000 visitors per year. The usage of Uniview in the planetarium is very creative including sessions with the visitors actually navigating Uniview themselves with an Xbox gamepad, “It is really amazing, because the presentations is so alive and all in the audience are paying full attention” says Technical Director Harald Gamper.
