The Uniview Geoscope leverages and extends existing visualization technologies into a visualization platform providing a global context to geospatial datasets, thus enabling the telling of Geostories as first conceived by Buckminster Fuller in the late 1960’s. Contextualizing visualizations of geospatial datasets help users better understand and interact with the science presented, increasing the impact of a presentation and ultimately helping society to better understand important matters such as environmental, economical or sociological issues.

The Uniview Geoscope brings GIS (Geographic Information Systems) type visualizations into Uniview. By automatic access to so called Web Map Services, servers that provide global or local textures of Earth and other planets, Uniview can now page in remote texture archives much similar to other popular tools such as Google Earth and NASA Worldwind.

Furthermore, the Geoscope adds support for vector-based overlay data to Uniview. This support is based on the most common data format available in the GIS world, and makes literally millions of databases available to be visualized inside Uniview. Users can easily load and unload databases, to make up their own presentations on a large number of subjects, including Geology, Climatology and other Earth Sciences. A contextualized experience will help users understand the traditional mantra of thinking globally but acting locally, as local actions can be reflected in the larger context of the impact on the planet’s (eco-)system.

Uniview Geoscope dramatically expands the use of Uniview into the Earth Science realm, enabling users to increase the usage of their facilities and reaching new audiences.
